King George V Photograph

CRSC is selling high-quality enlargements of one of the greatest of all steamer photographs. This limited edition shows King George V entering Oban Bay in her full glory on 9 July 1971. These prints were made from a scan of the original negative, to which CRSC has had privileged access. They have the same high-quality finish as last year’s black-and-white enlargement of Duchess of Hamilton at Millport, which is still available at the same price.
The KGV photo, which formed the centre spread of the 2020 CRSC magazine ‘Clyde Steamers’, was taken by A. E. Bennett, a renowned shipping photographer. He hired a rowing boat to position himself at the best vantage point for capturing KGV on her approach to Oban from Fort William for the Wednesday sailing to Iona.
