Columba seen at Oban as Isle of Mull arrives back
My memory of this day was the dismal weather. It made it necessary to change plans “on the hoof” when we got to Oban as the sailing on Glen Sannox from Tobermory was no longer an option and it made the coach trip seem longer to and from Oban. As soon as we stepped off the bus or out of any shelter we could find, we got soaked and a particular memory is a sizeable group of the party trying to huddle under the turned over ramp flaps on the Isle of Cumbrae as she heaved and plunged on the crossing to and from Lochaline. It really offered no protection at all but then there wasn’t much else on Isle of Cumbrae.
When the bedraggled group got back to Oban, Columba was alongside de-storing and preparing for her handover voyage to her new owners. As way of compensation for the lost sailing on Glen Sannox some quick discussions and negotiations allowed us a quick visit to Columba on her last day under the CalMac flag. To be honest some would have settled for dry towels and a warm bath!
