December 2010 Meeting – Steamers to Stornoway

In the few days leading up to the December meeting, the Club Committee were faced with the difficult decision as to whether or not the meeting should be cancelled, due to the prevailing bad weather and difficulties with travel during the week.
In the end, it was decided to go ahead as planned and approximately two dozen hardy souls braved the elements to get to Jury’s Inn and hear a very fine presentation from Colin Tucker. Although some members had travelled a fair distance to get to the meeting, none had travelled further than our speaker from his home in the Borders.
Colin took us on a steady course through the history and development of the Stornoway Steamer Services, showing a fine collection of images of various vessels which have plied the various routes and giving us an insight into the difficulties of developing these services and some of the factors which impacted on the evolution of the “Steamers to Stornoway”
