Built to Last: Island class ferries in Ireland 40+ years on

13Mar2019

Club member David Sinclair brings a contemporary flavour to CRSC’s March meeting, with a look at what has happened to the many ‘Island’ class of former CalMac ferries that have flourished in Ireland

From 7.30pm

At Jurys Inn

Glasgow G1 1QG

With plentiful illustrations to delight us, David Sinclair investigates the fate of ‘Island’ class ferries which, after giving splendid service on short routes along Scotland’s west coast, are now enjoying a new lease of life in Ireland.

These ferries - Bruernish, Canna, Eigg, Rhum and others - rarely made the headlines under the CalMac flag, but have continued to serve a useful role in out-of-the-way areas of the island of Ireland.

Entry to the meeting is free and non-members are welcome: please arrive early to socialise in the ante-room on the first floor of Jurys Inn, where photographs are available for purchase.
