CalMac’s summer timetable runs until 18 October, and bookings are now being taken right up to that date. Everyone is advised to check the service status at calmac.co.uk before setting out. If you have not booked before the day of travel, you can turn up and see if space is available. All retail outlets on board vessels and at ports remain closed. A two-vessel service operates between Ardrossan and Brodick until 28 September. There are nine return sailings a day between Lochranza and Claonaig, all on a turn-up-and-go basis - i.e. no advance bookings. The same applies to Tarbert-Portavadie, where departures are hourly between 0900 ex Tarbert and 1830 ex Portavadie. The other routes for which you cannot book in advance are Largs-Cumbrae Slip, Gourock-Kilcreggan (passenger only service), Gourock-Dunoon (passenger only service), Colintraive-Rhubodach, Tayinloan-Gigha, Fionnphort-Iona (passenger only), Lochaline-Fishnish, Gallanach-Kerrera (passenger only) and Sconser-Raasay. A limited number of Outside Tickets is available on the day of travel for foot passengers on the following routes: Ardrossan-Brodick, Wemyss Bay-Rothesay, Oban-Craignure. These are sold only after indoor capacity has been filled and are subject to weather forecasts. Outside Tickets entitle you to use outside seating and visit the toilet - but not to linger inside.
