SAVE THE DATE: New Year excursion to Arran on 14 January

CRSC’s New Year excursion gives us a chance to sail together on both Isle of Arran and Hebridean Isles

CRSC members and friends are invited to take part in our nominated excursion on Saturday 14 January, seizing the opportunity to sail on two vintage ferries while both are on relief duty on the Ardrossan-Brodick run. We hope as many as possible will join us for this traditional New Year cruise and share in the opportunities for sailing and socialising that it offers.

Robin Copland, CRSC President

Club President Robin Copland introduces the event:

I am looking forward to meeting as many of you as can be there on 14 January.

Enshrined in our Club’s constitution is the sentence “To create opportunities for ship enthusiasts to sail, meet and talk together”. Well, our monthly meetings in Glasgow give us the chance to meet and talk together, but I want to encourage you to sail together with us on Saturday 14th January, utilising the 0945 sailing from Ardrossan and returning from Brodick at either 1355 (same boat as outward passage) or 1640 (different boat).

Everyone is welcome — family members and non-CRSC members included!

This will give us the opportunity to sail together on Isle of Arran and Hebridean Isles. Crucially, these sailings will take place in daylight, giving photographers the opportunity to capture two veteran ferries in different locations and (hopefully!) lit by a wintry sun (don’t hold your breath for the sun to appear, right enough. Oh – and if the sun doesn’t shine, don’t blame me or cruising coordinator Neil Guthrie!).

The idea is that everyone will advance-purchase their own tickets for the sailings. In other words, there will be no direct block purchase of tickets by the Club; it will be up to those who wish to sail to book their own tickets. You can do so through the CalMac website.

When we get to Brodick, there will be a group photo on the inshore concourse of the pier approach (near where the old pier was situated). Everyone will then have time to explore Brodick before we take the return sailing.

It promises to be a bracing day in which friendships are renewed, lasting memories are made and great photographs taken.

In the meantime, I urge anyone who has not yet paid their 2022-23 CRSC subscription to do so here.

Our winter meetings at Jurys Inn, 80 Jamaica Street, Glasgow, continue tomorrow evening (14 December at 1930) with a Members Night and on Wednesday 11 January with an illustrated talk by Gavin Stewart.

I have seen a couple of tomorrow’s presentations already and I am really looking forward to hearing what each of the speakers has to say about their photographs!

For those who cannot make our Glasgow meetings in person, worry not: the presentations will be available on YouTube a couple of days after the meeting takes place, and the link will be posted on this website.

Wishing you all the best for the festive season.

Yours aye,

Robin
