Two Ship Nominated Excursion to Arran – Sunday 20 September 2026

The chartered catamaran Alfred has been a familiar sight in Brodick Bay for more than three years

The recently announced temporary closure of Ardrossan for renewal of fendering during September offers an opportunity for a straightforward two ship excursion from Troon to Brodick.

Alfred has been on long term charter to CalMac and has been a vital element in maintaining the Arran service through some difficult times for the company. However, with the advent of new tonnage, this charter must be drawing to a close, so the Club has decided to offer members and friends the opportunity for one last sail on her, together with the chance to sail on the now rejuvenated Caledonian Isles, which will be displaced from her usual Ardrossan base.

As Saturdays in September can be busy with Autumn Holiday traffic, the excursion will take place on Sunday 20 September, with the following timings:

Caledonian Isles

Depart Troon at 12.40, and arrive at Brodick at 14.00

Alfred

Depart Brodick at 16.00, and arrive back at Troon at 17.20

Allowing for disembarkation and return check in, this will allow for more than an hour ashore in Brodick. Lunch will be available on Caledonian Isles on the outward journey and a vending machine offering drinks and cold snacks is available on Alfred on the return.

As group bookings are not available, those wishing to join the excursion should book tickets via the CalMac website or at Troon on the day. The return fare is £10.60, and advance booking may be advisable. There is plentiful car parking at Troon harbour and a complimentary shuttle bus operates from the car park to the terminal building. For those wishing to travel by train, the connecting train leaves Glasgow Central at 11.30 and on the return, leaves Troon at 17.56. A complimentary shuttle bus service will operate between the station and the terminal building for all services.

We hope as many CRSC members and friends as possible will take the opportunity for a last chance to sail together during the summer timetable and bid farewell to a useful, if temporary, member of the CalMac fleet.
