CRSC 2022 Calendar is here — plus Photo Offer and DVD

Cover of the 2022 CRSC Calendar

CRSC has produced a glorious 2022 Calendar, plus a 12-pack of archive photos and a new DVD to keep you glued to your screen in winter months.  They are all available from CRSC SHOP.

2022 CALENDAR

The ever-popular CRSC Calendar is now available, showing some stunning images (and lots of dates!). Pride of place in our 2022 edition goes to Duchess of Hamilton in her 90th anniversary year, pictured on the cover leaving Rothesay in a beautiful portrait by professional photographer (and Club member) John Goss.

Among the other pictures is Captain Murray Paterson’s epic overhead shot of Glen Sannox at Stranraer on a CRSC charter on 9 May 1987.

The presentation — and pictorial variety — of the 2022 Calendar is superb. By common consent it is every bit as stunning as last year’s. Order yours here while stocks last!

Compiled by Gordon Law, the Calendar is a joint production with the West Highland Steamer Club.

2021 DVD

CRSC’s annual DVD, compiled by Stuart Craig, is ‘hot off the coals’. This 60-minute video is a compilation of vessels mostly filmed over the last 12 months or so. Clips include the much-loved Isle of Arran out and about on the west coast, Finlaggan at Islay, Loch Linnhe and Isle of Mull at Oban, Maid of the Loch out of the water, Waverley around the Clyde piers and filmed from a drone, Rev PS Goodship’s AGM address to the Club (!) and much more….

Michael Girvan’s drone footage of Waverley arriving at Ardrishaig on 15 August 2021 is featured in the latest CRSC DVD

The DVD is a snip at £17, but paid-up CRSC members get it for £15 (including p&p).

Remember, all our previous DVDs (except 2019) are still available — they are a wonderful way to relive favourite scenes in Clyde and West Highland waters.

We also have a few copies left of our best-selling Clyde Steamers in Colour, comprising vintage footage of Clyde steamers filmed by the late Ian Brown in the 1960s and 70s. Bliss! Don’t miss out.

Clyde Steamers in Colour costs £14.50, but CRSC members pay £12. These prices include p&p.

All these items are available from the Club SHOP.

PHOTOS

Twice a year CRSC releases a special pack of archive photographs — and this autumn’s photo offer is unusually rich in scope and rarity value. The offer consists of 12 prints, each measuring 7” x 5”. Carefully selected from the CRSC Digital Archive, these photos — most of them previously unpublished — include a lovely broadside portrait of MV Isle of Arran arriving at Ardrossan in her 1985-98 livery, car ferries Claymore and Pioneer at Port Askaig in 1993 (when Kennacraig was closed to traffic), Duchess of Hamilton bathed in sunlight next to Maid of Argyll at Gourock in 1970, the 1957 Glen Sannox in Garvel Dry Dock and the MacBrayne cargo ship Loch Carron manoeuvring off Gourock Pier c1973.

You can also check out our unique enlargements, each measuring 45cm x 32cm and costing £20 post free (discounted to £15 for CRSC members). These are ideal for framing, and a magnificent memento for any enthusiast’s living room/study wall. We have three on offer, all unique to CRSC:

● a magnificent seascape-portrait of King Edward on trials, courtesy of professional artist (and Club member) Martyn Mackrill, who kindly allowed CRSC to reproduce his painting for the benefit of us all.

● King George V colour photo enlargement. Made from the original negative and honouring the legacy of the late, great steamer photographer A.E. (Tony) Bennett, this is one of the finest steamer photographs of all time. We still have a few copies left, so make sure of yours by ordering it here now.

Duchess of Hamilton enlargement, showing the much loved CSP turbine in Millport Bay c1962. This CRSC special was made from the original negative left by the late Walter Kerr, Millport’s resident postwar photographer. Click here to secure your copy. Same size and price as the other enlargements.

WINTER TALKS

Although the lingering impact of Covid means we are cagey about organising meetings in the enclosed space of Jurys Inn, we hope to have a ‘physical’ meeting there in March 2022, and in the meantime will continue our monthly talks by online Zoom video conferencing. These have proved extremely popular over the past 12 months, and have been attended by Club members from around the globe.

Full details of the 2021-22 winter line-up are available here. Zoom codes for Andrew Anderson’s President’s Address on Wednesday 13 October will be shown on the CRSC home page in good time.

Please also consider contributing to our lively Facebook page, CRSC Photos/News, where a lot of enthusiast activity takes place.
