2021 Calendar, DVD and Photo Offer: wow!

The 2021 Calendar includes a brilliant close-up of Saturn dressed overall and pirouetting off Brodick, and a knock-out shot of three big ferries at Oban

CRSC members are enjoying a bumper autumn, with Review 2019 newly arrived by mail and plenty of other goodies — Calendars, DVDs, special Photo Packs and a superb enlarged photo of King George V — now available from the CRSC SHOP.

Despite restrictions on meeting together, we can still enjoy all the usual fare that the Club has to offer at this time of year. The procedures that allow the ‘steamer’ club to sail along are in full working order, and we will hold our delayed Annual General Meeting online by Zoom on Wednesday 11 November (details to follow).

Annual subscriptions are due: hurry along now, please, as the membership fee has been frozen at £25 yet again. Newcomers can join for £10!

2021 CALENDAR

The ever-popular Calendar is now available, showing some stunning images (and lots of dates!). Pride among the pictures is a previously unpublished shot of two big CalMac ferries next to each other at the new Brodick pier, bathed in blazing sunlight (you’ll have to buy the Calendar to find out which ferries).

The presentation — and pictorial variety — of the 2021 Calendar is superb. By common consent it is every bit as stunning as last year’s. Order yours here while stocks last!

Compiled by Gordon Law, the Calendar is a joint publication between CRSC and the West Highland Steamer Club.

The latest DVD has footage of ‘Caley Isles’ at Troon and the new Glen Sannox being towed from Port Glasgow to Garvel Dry Dock at Greenock

2020 DVD

CRSC’s annual DVD, compiled by Stuart Craig, is ‘hot off the coals’. This 50-minute long production is a compilation of vessels mostly filmed over the last 12 months or so. Clips include Isle of Arran and Hebridean Isles together at Brodick, Caledonian Isles at Troon, upper Firth ships serving Dunoon and Rothesay, Maid of the Loch in steam, the new Glen Sannox under tow — and much more.

The DVD is a snip at £15, but paid-up CRSC members get it for £10 (including p&p).

Remember, all our previous DVDs (except 2019) are still available — they are a wonderful way to relive favourite scenes in Clyde and West Highland waters.

We also have a few copies left of our best-selling Clyde Steamers in Colour, comprising vintage footage of Clyde steamers filmed by the late Ian Brown in the 1960s and 70s. Bliss! Don’t miss out.

Clyde Steamers in Colour costs £14.50, but CRSC members pay £12. These prices include p&p.

PHOTOS

Twice a year CRSC releases a special pack of archive photographs — and this autumn’s photo offer is unusually rich in scope and rarity value. Carefully selected from the CRSC Digital Archive, it is sold as a batch of 12 pictures, all previously unpublished. They include a stunner of Duchess of Hamilton manoeuvring in Ayr Harbour, a beauty of paddle steamer Caledonia arriving at Innellan in 1969, Marmion with full-length promenade deck c1920, and the 1957 Glen Sannox in her first season at Brodick, with a picturesque puffer in the foreground. Click here to order your photo set now (£16 to non-members, £12 to members, all post free).

Check out also the King George V enlargement, a magnificent 45cm x 32cm print made from the original negative and honouring the legacy of the late, great steamer photographer A.E. (Tony) Bennett. First seen as the centre-spread of the 2020 edition of the CRSC magazine Clyde Steamers, this is one of the finest steamer photographs of all time, ideal for framing and worthy of any enthusiast’s living room/study wall. We have limited supplies of this enlargement, so make sure of your copy by ordering it here now. The KGV enlargement costs £20 but CRSC members pay £15, all post free.

There are still a few copies left of the Duchess of Hamilton enlargement made from the original negative by the late Walter Kerr, Millport’s resident postwar photographer. Click here to secure your copy. Same size and prices as the KGV enlargement.
